A new report by Politico reveals that the Obama administration was made aware of Russian attempts to meddle in Western elections as early as 2014 but chose to do nothing.
President Barack Obama and senior officials were reluctant to act on the information because the administration did not want to botch a peace deal in Syria involving the Russian government.
“The truth is, nobody wanted to piss off the Russians,” a former intelligence official admitted to Politico.
President Donald Trump, beset for months by allegations that his campaign colluded with the Russians, shared the report about Obama on Twitter.
According to report just out, President Obama knew about Russian interference 3 years ago but he didn’t want to anger Russia!

“According to report just out, President Obama knew about Russian interference 3 years ago but he didn’t want to anger Russia!” the president wrote on Tuesday.
Intelligence officials reportedly presented several options to the Obama White House to counter Kremlin-led efforts at election meddling, but the administration did not act on the plans.
Despite escalating tensions, Obama staffers would not even look into U.S. intelligence officials’ request to close two Russian spy compounds in Maryland and New York.
“For quite some time, it was an active option. Secretary (of State John) Kerry refused to consider it,” a former NSC official said.
The move would have sent a message to Moscow amid tensions in Ukraine, but the administration did not want to stir the pot.
This isn’t the first time Trump has challenged his predecessor for doing nothing about Russian election meddling.
He made similar statements during a Fox News interview in June.
“Well, I just heard today for the first time that Obama knew about Russia a long time before the election, and he did nothing about it. But nobody wants to talk about that.”
