For the past few months, liberals have been screaming hysterically over the Trump administration’s increased efforts to find, arrest, and deport criminal illegal immigrants who are in this country.
The state of California in particular has objected to the Trump administration’s efforts. On Tuesday, California’s Chief Justice, Tani Cantil-Sakauy, stated that she wanted Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to stay out of courthouses, The Sacramento Bee reported.
“If no one ever speaks out, then we can never be the land of the free and the home of the brave,” Cantil-Sakauy stated during a panel discussion Tuesday.
We should point out that while Judge Cantil-Sakauy may well want ICE officials to stay out of courthouses, she doesn’t actually have any authority to make that happen — all she can do is scream, yell, and grab headlines.
“This is a national concern … that deserves more attention,” she said. “We’re seeing people not coming to court, not reporting to court, not coming for services (and) not coming to testify … this has an effect not only on the immediate case and the safety of communities, but people who live in the communities.”
President Donald Trump promised during last year’s campaign to crack down on criminal illegals, and he’s following through. ICE officials are just following orders and enforcing the law — something that Cantil-Sakauy is theoretically supposed to do as well.
The Los Angeles Times reported that in March, Attorney General Jeff Sessions blasted Cantil-Sakauy for her characterization that immigration authorities were “stalking” people outside of courthouses.
“As the chief judicial officer of the state of California, your characterization of federal law enforcement is particularly troubling,” Sessions wrote in a letter to Judge Cantil-Sakauy, pointing out that immigration authorities had to stake out courthouses because local authorities wouldn’t cooperate with them.
The Los Angeles Times noted in a separate article that California currently has several bills in the pipeline that could prevent state law enforcement from detaining illegal immigrants for anything less than a “serious crime.”
Those folks in California sure don’t like enforcing the law much. Some day that is going to come back and bite them where it hurts.
