Joy Behar Is Forced to Apologize for Spreading False ABC News Report on Trump and Flynn

When the first report broke from ABC News on Friday regarding how former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn was supposedly going to testify that then-candidate Donald Trump ordered him to reach out to Russians during the campaign, the audience at “The View” went wild.

While they were taping, a producer came onto the set to tell co-host Joy Behar. After Behar joyously read the news and both she and the audience cheered, a video of it went viral.

Then, eight hours later, ABC News had to correct its report, stating the attempt at communication was not when Trump was a candidate, but rather when he was president-elect.

On Monday’s episode, Behar had to apologize for spreading the inaccurate reporting.

“So on Friday’s show, apparently I was guilty of premature evaluation,” she said. “I hear they have a pill for that now.”

“Here’s what happened, ABC News reporter Brian Ross released a story claiming that when Trump was a candidate, he told Michael Flynn to contact the Russians,” Behar continued. “Ross later corrected himself, saying it was actually when Trump was president-elect. Now, Brian has been suspended for a month.”

In its statement, ABC said it was sorry for the false reporting and has punished Ross: “We deeply regret and apologize for the serious error we made yesterday. The reporting conveyed by Brian Ross during the special report had not been fully vetted through our editorial standards process.”
