The American people deserve the truth, Fox News host Sean Hannity said Tuesday as he urged Attorney General Jeff Sessions to re-open the investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s email scandal.
Hannity said that the conclusions foisted off on Americans last year after a flawed FBI investigation that reeked of politics are simply not good enough.
“We’ve been telling you for over a year that former FBI director James Comey and his decision not to recommend charges against Hillary Clinton over the email server was based solely on politics, not on evidence,” he said.
Sens. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., last week wrote FBI Director Chis Wray about a revelation that Comey started work on his statement clearing Clinton of any charges against her long before the FBI’s investigation into her email scandal was complete. The information was in partially redacted transcripts of interviews with two FBI officials.
“Conclusion first, fact-gathering second — that’s no way to run an investigation. The FBI should be held to a higher standard than that, especially in a matter of such great public interest and controversy,” Grassley and Graham wrote, claiming they were told Comey began work on a statement in April or May. Clinton was officially cleared of any charges in July.
“Now there appears to be the proof we’ve been looking for,” Hannity said, adding that Comey “was drafting a letter that exonerated Hillary Clinton months before the bureau even interviewed the former Secretary of State and many key witnesses.”
“This is beyond disgusting, embarrassing, and beyond shameful,” Hannity said. “There is a two-tier justice system … in America today. One for the Clintons and one for the rest of us.”
“Enough is enough, the country deserves to know what the truth is … It’s time for the Attorney General Jeff Sessions, he must re-open Hillary Clinton’s email server case and investigate James Comey’s role in letter her go free without a real investigation,” said Hannity.
“Congress must investigate all of this, and they’ve got to get to the truth. They have subpoena and they have investigative powers, it’s time for them to use it,” he said.
Attorney Jay Sekulow, a member of President Donald Trump’s legal team, said that the new information undercuts any claim of credibility the FBI and its investigation ever had.
“The whole investigation, evidently, was a fraud on the American people,” he said. “You’ve got James Comey now with emails going back and forth where he’s drafting three months before they interview 16 key witnesses, including the supposed target of the investigation — exoneration!”
“Who in the world would draft a document… three months before witness interviews are complete including the subject and target of the investigation?” he said.
Although the issue may have faded from front pages, the American people are still keeping tabs.
A recent Rasmussen Reports poll shows that 64 percent of those polled believe Clinton committed a crime by using a private email server while she secretary of state. More than 50 percent want the FBI’s files made public.
