Alyssa Milano Draws Social Media Backlash For Using National Day Of Prayer To Attack Trump

When President Donald Trump ’s designated National Day of Prayer arrived Sunday, Hollywood actress Alyssa Milano, a frequent critic of the president, used it to lampoon him as an “a–hole.”

“Remember, Sunday is National A**hole Day (by Presidential Proclamation)!” the actress, who was mocked earlier this year on social media for arguing in favor of using “compassion” to defeat the Islamic State group, tweeted that evening.

Announced by the president a day earlier in a White House statement, the National Day of Prayer for Sept. 3 had been intended to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey and those who’ve made efforts to assist them.

“I urge Americans of all faiths and religious traditions and backgrounds to offer prayers today for all those harmed by Hurricane Harvey, including people who have lost family members or been injured, those who have lost homes or other property, and our first responders, law enforcement officers, military personnel, and medical professionals leading the response and recovery efforts,” the president had said.

“Each of us, in our own way, may call upon our God for strength and comfort during this difficult time. I call on all Americans and houses of worship throughout the Nation to join in one voice of prayer, as we seek to uplift one another and assist those suffering from the consequences of this terrible storm.”

The top-voted replies to Milano’s tweet appeared to indicate that most social media users disagreed with her condescending snark.

Rather than apologize, however, Milano seemed to double down by issuing another tweet the following morning begging former President Barack Obama to intervene on behalf of the country.

“Dear @BarackObama, Hi! We need you,” she wrote. “Maybe just a short but mighty tweet to remind us what leadership looks like. Thanks, America.”

The top-voted replies to this tweet mirrored those of her previous one.

“You lost the election, Alyssa,” wrote Twitter user Jan Brenner in a reply that had garnered 118 likes by Tuesday morning. “Let the duly elected president and Cabinet do their jobs without interference from the former president.”

“Day 227 of the Alyssa Milano Temper Tantrum,” added a user named Ped. “She should save some energy, plenty more days left!”
